Default Multiple Spine Surgeries (10) Cervical and Lumbar, Current Problem with L2-L3

Hello all. Really sorry to have to introduce myself, but I need some support. I live in NoCal and am a long-time spinal sufferer. Right now, I'm having problems at L2-3 and the doc (and me) wants to put in an ADR. Of course, the ins co won't want to pay for it, but the company of the person who rear-ended me should. I know I'm in for a fight. What words of wisdom does anybody have for me? Thanks! Missy
Multiple spinal surgeries (10) beginning in 1982. Fusion L4-5 (1992), Dyneses rods after stenosis surgery L3-5 (2006). Fusion C6-7 (1993) and C5-6 (1999), Foraminotomy C4-5 (2008). Current problem L5-S1. MRI doesn't see anything, but the pain is consisitent to L5-S1.

    Missy,

First of all, welcome to the Spine Patient Society. We're happy to have you here but sorry you have to be here.

You've been through the wringer with spine problems before your accident. Depending on how much time you have, I'd suggest getting a few more opinions before making a choice. You have several great surgeons in California that might be able to offer advice and treatment options.

The legal aspect isn't something I would bank on right away. After a drunk hit me head on in 1986, it took 4 years for his insurance company to settle. He had the minimum coverage which covered less than 20% of my damages and medical expenses.

Good luck to you and, again, welcome!

    Bob

I agree with Bob 100%. I would seek second opinions for sure. Also, it took over 4 years for the insurance of the driver who hit me to pay me. I had to hire an attorney to even get jack, so they got 40% off the top of the settlement. They even tried to argue that it was somehow my fault (which apparently even if the police say it is the other drivers fault, it can still be argued in court). I finally settled, but I ended up being in a clinical trial for my surgery. Best of Luck, Kathy

    Missy,

    Long time, no here from.
I spoke to you before at least a year back.
I am different on another forum.
I would fight for an ADR if everything indicates that this is the best surgery/device for you.
See the post Justin put up about ADR contraindications.
Although the ins. co may say that they never have paid for an ADR, do not bet on it.
They may say and stretch the truth or lie just for their own purpose.
    Hope you get relief soon.
