Default NuVasive clinical trial XL TDR lateral incision

Goodmorning! I am now 4 days post op and doing very well. I had surgery with Dr. Spayde 10-21-11. He made a lateral incision on the right, removed my badly damaged disc and put in the new disc. He also had to cut me on my back to do a revision on the discectomy that was done a year ago because the disc bulge was rather significant and couldn't get total access with lateral incision on the right. I had pretty sharp pain post op and they managed it well along with the nausea. The nurse noticed my left leg and foot were cold to the touch and I noted that it was very numb on the bottom and outside up my left leg. They did an ultrasound, X-ray, and cat scan and everything looked perfect so I went home the next day. I was hoping to just take 1/2 norco and 800 Motrin but need to add tramadol to get complete relief. I am just happy i havent needed to break into the percocet. I am able to get outta bed by myself and have been taking frequent mini walks around the house including the stairs. The numbness is still there but I'm able to lift both knees up to my waist.

4 weeks post op and am working in my kids classes., driving and doing most of my usual house work. Still taking anti inflams. I am just so relieved to be out of that intense pain! Still waiting a couple weeks to start stretching and core work. I have a little pain in right hip( the side that had the laminectomy/discectomy revision. The right leg is still a little weak from the incision and manipulation of the leg muscle. Otherwise all is well!, I feel so fortunate to have found Dr.Spayde and the NuVasive trial!

Hi Mike, I never needed the oxy. Got off the anti inflams, but am still occasionally taking 1/2 Vicodin. I seem to push a little too hard and it's just tough to get off. I have a friend who fused 5-6 months ago and can't get off percocets. It's really addictive so be careful. What are your remaining symptoms? Did you go thru PT? Happy Holidays!! Victoria

6 weeks post op and X-ray looks great! Dr. Spayde says its looks like a perfect placement. Off almost all meds. Just an occasional ibu or soma at night when I have done too much bending and lifting. Stretching and doing some light core exercises. Slight pain down my left side, but after being in such intense pain for so long the pain is easily bearable to say the least! Back to almost all activity with exception of intense workouts which I will work back up to!!

Wow Victoria! Glad to hear that you are doing so well post op! Very encouraging.

Although I am not having the XL TDR, I am having ADR at L5/S1 on Feb 6th, so great to hear about your recovery.

    Wishing you continued success!
