Did your gait change after the surgery or did you have to correct it somehow?
My gait improved to normal. Prior to surgery my gait was probably not correct. No issues with the surgery except some post numbness superficially. Hope this will go away with time..

9/09 Piriformis surgery to remove piriformis muscle causing sciatica
3 1/2 month update for left piriformis surgery to remove muscle and decompress the sciatic nerve. Most of my leg cramping and sciatica is gone. Unfortunately it seems to have been replaced by some numbness in my butt and rear thigh. I was hoping I would see some decrease in the numbmness by now but it is still significant. I did not have this before the surgery. Oh well. I am going to see a pain management specialist who does CT guided injections in the piriformis area. Maybe a little injection might calm things down. We shall see what he says. Maybe it could make things worse though. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks

I guess my post never went through so here I go again. Rob are you still having pain and that is why you want to calm things down? The numbness may take a long time to come back. Those nerves grow very slowly.
What is in the injections? My Dr. did EMG guided injections of cortisone and Botox. Both provided relief from pain. My muscle crackled off the charts so he knew he was in the right place. I have not heard about CT guided injections.
I was hoping you would be pain free after this surgery? Let me know what you are going to do and how you feel.

Phylly,
Just had a little cortisone to the surgery area. It got rid of some of the residual pain but still have numbness all the way to back of knee. Oh well. At least the cramping is gone. That is the problem with surgery. You just never know. I did not have this numbness before surgery. I might try some PRP injections to the surgery area next.

Rob, it seems you and I have similar effects from the surgery. I am only 2 months post op for bilateral piriformis release surgery and my right leg close to the incision has a large numb area. I still feel pressure/pain in the backs of my legs when I sit and I get terrible bilateral knee pain intermittently. I am still trying to be positive on the outcome, I've even reduced one of my pain meds and I dont feel that bad. At 43, my body is at a snails pace to recover, time will only tell. Thank you for sharing your update!
Damn Rob! This sounds like such a draconian surgery. You have gone through so much more than many others to try to get to that pain free place. I sure hope that this is the answer for you and that you will get your feeling back and settled in with just plain good living.
I continue to struggle with the SI joint and require SI joint injetions every 6 months or so. I can't complain other than that though, as I continue to ride my spinning bike, snowshoe, work every day, travel, shovel snow, etc. When I think of the fact that I was walking with a cane for a year and that I could have ended up in a wheelchair, I count my blessings.
I wish nothing but the best for you Rob as I know you are a God fearing man and deserve the best that life has to offer.
Hang in there.
