Default Post L5/S1 Fusion on Charite Artificial Disc Replacement

Been for my 3 month check today and he thinks that he might have "caught" my main nerve to the left leg (probably said this in more medical terms but think thats what he meant). He is hopeful that sensation should return to normal and sharp pains die down. Its the usual waIt, wait and wait some more answer ( and yes if in doubt wait a little bit more again). I expressed that I felt like I had been kicked by a horse and he said that i virtually had and it was a very good comparison in terms of impact upon the spine.

The really good news is the all clear to go swimming, only a little to start off with but if I hadn't been so tired from the appointment I would have got hubbie to take me straight to the pool and get in fully clothed. Really looking forward to a bit of weightlessness rather than dragging these sorry lumps of legs around.

Alison, thanks for the update. I do hope that the pain subsides in the coming months. Congrats on being cleared to swim! Remember to take things slow.

My step mom is a family nurse practitioner and she says the medical buisness is 'hurry up and wait' That seems to be the motto.

So glad you got the clear to swim. I like to do my stretching in the water, seems to be easier.

Alison, I am always wanting to call you "Jill," because your picture so resembles a dear friend of mine. Any hoo, it sounds like things are rocking along, and getting the clearance to start a mild swim program is wonderful news. So, good for you. I hope you find the beginning of such exercise lightens your load a bit. Take care.

    Default Enjoy!

Enjoy your first dip in the pool . It's good to add a bit of variety to your routine after doing walking only but don't stay too long in there. It was good the 1st time I went to the gym recently & saw some regulars I know. You feel like you're slowly getting back in the land of the living.

There's nothing much you can do with nerves other than take the meds & wait & hope. Fingers crossed . Hope the prediction is right that sensation will return.

Ruth, I also had the Activ-L put in at my L4/5. I had surgery on March 17, 2009. Since it's still in clinical trials here in the US, I don't 'know' or haven't heard of anyone else who has one. I saw that in your signature, so had to stop and say hello and

It'll be nice to have something to do on disgusting days rather than ploughing through the rain. I can swim without using my legs so planning on doing that for a few lengths and then floating for a bit.
