Sorry to hear all the bad stories of post-op care, I just have to say mine was so good I didnt want to leave. I had my surgery just outside of Chicago at St. Alexis medical center and stayed for 3 days after sugery. I was then transfered to their rehab hospital for 2 weeks due to the fact my wife suffers from M.S. and wouldnt be able to take care of me. The nurses there were so good and caring I couldnt have asked for anything more, It was almost like staying in a hotel with full time care. I was in pretty bad shape when I got there after my L4-S1 fusion, but with daily rehab therapy, and awesome nursing care and a comfortable environment, I was well on my way to recovery when I left.
This is really the treatment all patients should have. Hopefully one day all hospitals will work this way, its time we get out of the dark ages.
    43 yr.old male
    08/10 work injury-heavy repetitive lifting
    L3-L4 mild disc bulge
L4-L5 facet changes, broad based disc bulging, annular tear
L5-S1 grade 2 spondylolisthesis, bulging and uncovering of disc with nerve encroachment
4mos of therapy and injections didnt work
    Surgery scheduled for Jan.
L4-L5 PSF, pedicle screw fixation, L4-L5, L5-S1 TLIF

Were you at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago by chance? It's great to read you had a good experience post-op.

Justen- Yes, I was at the rehab institute of Chicago at Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Illinois. Really a top-notch organization. Both my mother and wife have also been fortunate enough to rehab there, and have had the same excellent experience. Maybe I shouldnt have posted this here, as the title asked for sufferers, after all the bad stories, just wanted to share a positive one.

Great! The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) is rated #1 in the country. I have a few friends that are residents at RIC--it's truly a top-notch rehab facility.
