Well the day has been and gone, My wife had her right sacroiliac joint fused yesterday and as promised I said I would write a blog and update on her progress, hopefully it may be of help to some people.
The surgery lasted approx 2 and a half hours and afterwards the surgeon said he was really really pleased how the surgery went. Sarah (my wife) seemed ok when she came out of recovery but in reality she was still under the anasthetic. she said the pain was bad but this is to be expected considering the surgery. I recieved a phone call from her later in the evening she was in floods of tears say she was in complete agony as the nurses had tried to roll her to get her on a bed pan so I shot down to the hospital and tried to comfort her. they gave her some medication and it seemed to carm her down. I let her drift off to sleep and came home. she has called me this morning to say she had an ok nights sleep and feels a little better this morning, still in a lot of pain though.
I am going to visit her later today so hopefully things will have improved, anyhow I will keep you all posted on her recovery.
Thanks
My wife is 33 years old.

Just got back from visiting sarah and she is doing a lot better than yesterday. The physio's have been to see her and had up out of bed and taken her through a few basic moves. Mr Ampat our consultant came and saw her and said again that the surgery went really well and hes was pleased with the job, he only managed to put one screw (which is not a problem) in as it was too tight for another however he did manage to pack out the joint nicely with bone so overall a job well done.
Sarah is in good spirits and says that her pain is completely different from her normal pain which i believe to be quite positive, suggesting that her regular pain has hopefully been reduced and what she is experiencing now is pure post op pain.
Im so proud of her with how she is coping with it all and I love her more then ever.
Sorry to get mushy lol

Thats good. It can be very encouraging to have different pain even though that sounds contradictory.
Getting mushy is good, I know I wouldn't cope without my wonderful other half. Someone who loves you even when you are going through the bad stuff makes it all ok.

Ryan, thank-you for the update on your wife Sara, and her surgery condition. All sounds pretty status quo, and I'm glad she is feeling somewhat better. I only had one screw for my SI Joint Fusion as well. I wish your wife a complete recovery with much success. You sound like one terrific, supportive hubby, too.![]()

Sarah is doing well today and feeling a little better, the physio's have had her up again taking a few steps with a frame and she had her lunch sitting at her chair instead of beining in bed. Consultant has requested an xray just to check position of screw but all in all her recovery is going well and improving.
Might be a few days before I update now as im working all weekend so hopefully when I post next there should be some more improvements.
thankyou all for taking an interest and sarah says thaks for the thoughts and support.

Well sarah came home from hospital today, she is doing really well and back on her crutches now all be it slow. Still in a fair bit of pain but it seems to be reducing by the day. The physiotherapists have given her some basic exercises to do at home to help with muscle function and we have an outpatients appointment with our consultant in 6 weeks.
We are going to see our GP next week who we have a good relationship with to try and work out a schedule for reducing her medication.
So far so good.......![]()

Glad she is doing so good. I wouldn't jump down on the meds too quickly... I think I took longer to heal from my ADR because I was in so much pain.

Not been too good today, pain has been quite bad, Sarah thinks its because she did quite a lot yesterday in order to get discharged from hospital. Managed to sleep a few hours last night in the bed then had to go down stairs on the sofa (she finds that more comfortable) only problem is it ment waking me in the middle of the night as I will not let her go up or down the stairs on her own, at least untill her 12 week MRI to check for fusion.
