Default Surgery is finally over: Surgery 6-29-11, L4-L5-S1 Decompression Staxx implants and Coflex F implants

    Hi All Supporters

I have returned from Loveland Colorado surgery with Dr K Pettine the staff was the best much better than expected.

I now have coflex at two levels and its too soon to see how its going to work still lots of back pain from the eight hour ride home etc.

I did have a ride to the ER two days after surgery due to too many pain pills Oxycodone 5 mg every four hours, Oxycontin 20mg three times a day, Diazepam 10mg three times a day, I got bloated with no bowel movements, dizzy and felt like vomiting, my left arm was killing me ,My wife called 911 and there was ten people in our room with in seconds , off we went.As I arrived in the ER I started to puke my brains out oh I felt so much better, apparently, I took way too many pills and could of died in my sleep. No more Oxycontin just Oxycodone as needed to control pain and Diazepam for muscle spazms.

I am glad to be here posting and will keep you up on the progress.

They also gave me the tool to take out my staples that will be a trick?

    Hey, GIL P,

Didn't realize you were having surgery already.

Like KBear, I have been in a bubble. IF KBear, has been in a bubble. Who knows, you were talking about it but then I missed the date.

Sounds good so far, hey those meds are about what I take but if you haven't taken them and all of the sudden take them, yes, I could see you going to Lah Lah land with them.
Smart of your wife to call 911.

Keep up the recovery and keep us in the loop, which I am sure you will. I know this is some new fangled thing, will have to read about it.

    Take care,

Gil, I'm so happy that you found something. So very happy. I've done the funky chicken myself a few times with bad reactions from the drugs, so can relate. It's scarey at the time, and thank heavens you have access to a good team nearby.

Hang in there, and keep us posted....we are all rooting for you.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

    Congratulations, Gil!

I'm glad that you are OK--talk about a scary time for you.

When you get a chance, maybe you could post what you had done (which levels), so that your surgery can be documented for others. Your situation is pretty unique and Dr. Kenneth Pettine used a lot of cool hardware.

    Gil,
I hope you have a quick and easy recovery. I am interested to hear your opinion on Dr. P. I am in the process of sending my MRI films, Xrays and medical records to his office to get his opinion. I spoke to Gina, she seemed to be a very caring and knowledgable person. I look foward to hearing more about your experiences.
    Best regards,
    Scott
15 years I tweaked my back playing basketball. That's when it all began.
Three years ago, I realized what back problems were really all about. I had
a herniated disc at L5-S1 and underwent a Laminectomy/Discectomy. Two
years after that surgery I herniated L4-5 with a annular tear. I saw a neurosurgeon
who said I had DDD in L4-5 and he recommended a two level fusion.

    Gil,

It's good to hear you're on the recovery side of surgery. The drive home sounds worse than flying back from Europe after surgery.

I'm sorry to hear the trip to the ER was necessary but I'm glad you had such a quick response team come to your house.

Heal well. I'll give you some of your own advice from past posts; slow and easy wins the race.
