Default Ten days until the knife comes down (Spinal Kinetics M6 Lumbar; L3/L4, L4/L5 and L5/S1)

    Hello everyone-

I'm profoundly grateful and tremendously fortunate enough to have, with the help of my family, funded my triple adr replacement surgery with Dr. Ritter-Lang--in Berlin on July, 15th--last week. The Euro did me no favors by jumping three pennies right before I transferred the funds , but such is life . I leave this Saturday and will arrive on Sunday at 9:30 A.M., hopefully I can celebrate the World Cup finals with the Germans, as there is a good chance that Germany will be in the finals at 11:30 A.M. that same day! I'll try and update everyone as to my experience as often as I can, but in the mean time any tips, tricks or encouragement would be much appreciated. Thanks to everyone that has responded to my posts on this site in the past, the information has been extremely valuable and I'll talk to you soon.

    -Dave

P.S. The surgery is for levels l3/l4, l4/l5 and l5/s1.

Congratulations on getting your surgery paid for.....that does suck about the exchange rate changing on you but at least your still set to go Best of luck to you, I hope everything goes off without a hitch. And from everything I have learned and read about Stenum and Dr RL I think its safe to say your in great hands. Hope to hear good things from you on the other side. Funny enough my biggest worry about my ALIF a couple weeks ago wasn't anything to do with the surgery (enough testing and homework told me I was doing the right thing) my worry was not being able to post online after surgery Thanks to my fantastic fiance she took the worry off my plate for me! Do you have family or friends traveling with you??

What type of disc will you get?
C4-5: Mild disc height loss with central annular fissure. Small broad-based left paracentral disc protrusion. Moderate central canal stenosis-the disc protrusion abuts and mildly flattens the left ventral surface of the spinal canal.

C5-6: Disc desiccation with mild height loss.Diffuse discosteophyte bulge and uncovertebral joint hypertrophy, moderate central canal stenosis- Severe neuroforaminal stenosis bilaterally, right greater than left

That is fabulous news! They were the ones I had worked so hard to get to originally, but it was not to be. They certainly helped a lot along the way though. All the best and I'll be watching for your post-op posts
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

    Tips,
-don't expect too much too soon post op and then you'll always be pleased with your progress,
-make sure the house is set up for your return,
-listen to what you are told to do and do it,
-don't stop painkillers too quickly and therefore reduce your mobility. Keeping moving little and often stops pain and increases healing.

looking forward to hearing all about your successful surgery!
