Just wanted to check in and give a quick update. Had a left C2/3 facet ESI yesterday, got some minor relief -- maybe down from an 8 to a 4 or a 5. Still have that crunchy, bone grinding pain from that facet though, just slightly lessened somewhat. My next ESI will be a transforaminal around the C6/7 nerve root space, to see if that provides any relief for the ongoing pain (mostly tricep area) and weakness in my left arm.

The other encouraging development recently was that I finally succeeded in scheduling a few second-opinion appointments, after many docs turned me away initially. In the next two weeks I'll be seeing Dr. Andrew Hecht at Mount Sinai in NYC, Dr. Frempong Boadu at NYU, and Dr. Daniel Sciubba at Hopkins (who I consulted with twice prior to surgery). I'm trying to get myself prepared for these appointments and hoping they will start to crystalize a way forward or at least some consensus around a potential surgical recommendation.

Well, that's about it for now. Hope everyone is doing well and enjoys the weekend!

Diagnosed 6 years ago (at age 30) with multi-level DDD of the C-spine
Have had numerous epidurals, nerve root injections, PT, etc.
Severe stenosis and cord compression at C5-6 and C6-7 -- also have herniations and stenosis at levels above
After much deliberation, decided to have a two-level fusion (5/6 and 6/7) on 1/25/11
Recovery has been rough so far, but trying to stay positive

    Hey Scott,

Just checking in after being away for a while and sorry to read from your posts that the situation has worsened since earlier after the fusion. You mentioned you were thinking about following up with Nick Boeree from your prior consult and I was wondering if you'd had any luck. Btw - why did TBI think you weren't a candidate for ADR?

I agree with Jeff's point about multiple consults - it takes a lot more effort than it should, but it's certainly important.

    Wishing you the best,
    Tyler
2010 Cycling accident tripped up a prior motorcycle injury
C5-6 and C6-7 disc degeneration, foraminal compromise with indentation of nerve roots causing arm pain and weakness
Aug-27-2010: 2-level ADR with Nick Boeree (Nuffield-Wessex Hospital, Eastleigh, UK) using Spinal Kinetics M6-C
Completely off of pain meds since a few days post-op and symptom-free; have returned to cycling, climbing and all other activities (but staying off the motorcycle)
