I'm just wondering what other people who are recovering from spinal fusion surgery are doing on a regular day while recovering at home. My doctor said on my first follow up appointment that "bored is good." like I'm interested in an average day of a person recovering. Like what do you do? I'm talking about do you stay in bed except for meals? Does anyone sit or how many times you walk. Like the normal everyday stuff. Should I be sitting less or laying down more.

keep changing position. no bending, lifting or twisting. rest however you are comfortable. little walks if possible.

I guess your doctor means that if you are bored that is good because you aren't doing anything you shouldn't.

I remember asking the same kind of question when I was in your position a year ago. It seemed worse than the surgery! Not only was I bored, but frustrated. I'm normally a very busy critter, and was so wanting to get on with my life after being laid up for several years.

I think my day consisted of a lot of reading and TV. I hadn't watched it in years, but got hooked for better or worse now I also got great use out of my long distance phone plan, and called friends I hadn't talked to in a long time. I remember wandering through the house, like you not allowed to lift, twist, etc. and looking out at my very neglected gardens. A very kind friend came over and spent the day redoing one for me, so I would have some nice colour instead of weeds.

I spent a lot of time planning what my new life was going to be like But my patience was very thin...I'm not a patient patient! Good luck with the healing process.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

I'm two weeks two days post surgery now. My day is pretty tedious; I walk from my 1st floor temporary bedroom to the couch where I pretty much spend my day. My main adventure is the 15' walk to the bathroom. I'm just starting to increase my walking having checked in with the Dr today and got a good progress report.

I read, sometimes watch TV - desperation! - oh and play 10 - 15 concurrent games of Words with Friends. Despite the pain meds I manage to win most.

The hardest part of recovery is fighting off the blues, mild depression.
